01-04-2007Very tough on the Waitahanui this morning. I took a friend into the lower reaches as he had fished them for a few years without too much success and wanted to see if I was telling the truth in my reports!!
There were a heap of anglers on there this morning as we had a good Westerly come in last night and I think we all thought “yippy” there will be fish in there. The fish had other ideas and all anglers on the water were walking around fishless. I managed to pick up this great 6 pounder from one of my little holes that I fish but apart from that, the river seemed barren.

The Rain we were meant to recieve today didn’t get here and again we had a windless sunny day, great for the lake but not the rivers.

Good reports from the Waitahanui rip over the past few days with a couple of 8 pounders coming out. The Tauranga Taupo River mouth has been fishing well also. Heave and leaves starting to come into their own as the spawning fish enter the systems.

Enjoy the next 24 hours and see you on the water.
