The Hinemaiaia rip fished well this morning using Green Woolly Buggers. The flow was good and the fish were in. The Waitahanui Rip fished well this afternoon for a few anglers out there, both smelt flies and Green Woolly Buggers doing the job. The Rip is looking great at the moment.
I fished the Waitahanui River this afternoon, taking my time through the pools, I managed to drop everything I hooked up on including an excellent rainbow. I fished to a huge brown trout for twenty or so minutes, before foul hooking him in the bum. This beast of a fish had to be eight pounds and almost had my five weight bent to the cork!! It finally pulled the hook but not after dragging me two hundred meters downstream through some of the scariest water I have ever been in. I had to bush bash my way through to the track again, tearing a hole in my waders!!!
Take your time through the pools make sure you are getting down to the fish and you should have some fun on this river.
We are starting up a contest on this page. SPOT THE POOL!! This is a picture of a Waitahanui pool. The first person to correctly identify it and email me the answer will recieve in the post, one of my ALMOST famous indicators and four of my favourite flies. Every six weeks we will put all the winners in a hat and draw out a winner. That person will recieve a free nights accommodation in one of our lake front units.
Take care out there and tight lines to all.
