I did a few rivers on Tuesday as the water was dropping. I found trout in all the rivers I fished but man did I have to work hard for them. The condition of the trout was excellent and they really fought well. I dropped a couple of fish around the 4 pound mark and kept two lovely fish that pulled the scales to 3.5 pounds. All were taken on Champagne Red Dot Glo Bugs, however I have been making my own Hair and Coppers and these little beauties are taking trout too. There was VERY little angling pressure and when I drove past the Tauranga Taupo at 8.30 am, the car park was empty!
Like most of the North Island we recieved heaps of rain and the river level have come up again. If you can make it down this weekend you should get some good fishing.
