Lake Taupo Trout Fishing And Guiding Report For The 02 Of August 2009

Hey All,

Just a quick update on the trout fishing here in Taupo.

We had heavy rain for most of yesterday and this sent all the river levels high. They are dropping at the moment and by this afternoon the Tauranga Taupo should be perfect. I know where I am going!!!

I guided twice yesterday, once in the morning and again for a few hours in the afternoon on the Hinemaiaia.

The morning guide started off well with a nice trout landed and a few dropped. Then the river levels started to rise and the bites dropped off a little. I hate trying to fish in a rising river. We ended the guide on a positive note with this feisty little Jack landed.

In the afternoon I guided Steven from Australia. This dude has been a regular reader of Taupofishing since day one and was a very regular client when we had the Waitahanui Lodge. His skill levels with the fly rod were fantastic and he was fantastic company on the water. We hooked up onto three trout in the Hinamaiaia which I thought was great considering there must have been a hundred anglers on there over the day!! The trout coming out of the Hine are a little up and down with some very good trout followed by some uglies!! I am guiding Steve again on Tuesday and am really looking forward to this as there should be a heap of Trout in all the rivers.

I am struggling to get to grips with my new camera and have stuffed up some good shots of my clients hooked up. I need to go back and read the operators manual!!!
