Lake Taupo Trout Fishing And Guiding Report For The 05th Of July 2012

Hey all,

I have been out and about on the rivers for the past couple of days and have had good look around. There are reasonable numbers of trout in all the rivers but some of these are dropping in volume and that means the trout are getting a little spooky. I drove down to Turangi late this morning as I needed to have a chat to the guys in Creel fishing, while I was down there I had a sneaky fish in the Tongariro. From what I have been told there are a few trout from the Bridge Pool up to red Hut. We certainly saw a few and surprisingly didn’t see to many anglers for that time of day. The water volume is perfect and there is even a little colour in it from all the snow melt. Man that water is cold!

Very few cars in the Tauranga Taupo as we drove back. I believe there was a good run with the small increase in water level that we had from Tuesdays rain. These went through very fast though and you had to be there on the day.

The Hinemaiaia has dropped in volume and this will certainly effect the running trout.

I am in the Waitahanui tomorrow morning and if you want to beat me into the top pools you will have to be up fairly early :) looking forward to this as I haven’t been up to the winter limit for a few years. I am dragging poor old Steven away from his beloved computer as well and he is already looking like a lost puppy about it.
