Hey All,

Still plenty of trout around on all the rivers. Good reports of excellent quality trout in the Waitahanui with a few of those big Browns coming through the river mouth! The upper pools certainly have a few in them, but the angling pressure is quite high and that is a small piece of water between Pig and Gordon Williams. Plenty of reports in, saying the trout have their mouths shut on the Nui!

Oh by the way Ross of course you can use my front page header as one of your daily reports. My pleasure, to bring your website some Taupofishing Culture!

I fished the lower Tauranga Taupo again today and had a blast with Balt, (The “”Russian””)…. There are a few spots on this river that are holding good numbers of trout and getting in nice and early can be the way to go. We ended up hooking into a few good fresh run trout until the sun hit the water then BAM it went dead. There is a full moon tonight and I hate full moons!!! It certainly has an effect on the trout during the day.

Lucky, that by the time the Waitahanui/V/Tonagriro contest gets underway this moon will be well gone and we can fish the rips. Can’t wait actually!! Unlike the Tongariro team captain I do not need to offer my team bribes, such as books, (although Volcanic Trout by Brendon Mathews is a GREAT book). No, my team just want to have the pleasure of beating them and beating them badly, I love that in my team!! There will of course be a few new rules in place. The first of course being that both teams have to see the winning trout, (sorry Wayne will never get sick of that one, lol). I would probably like to see the trophy just for the biggest Rainbow, (either sexes) that way it stops a big old Brown taking it out. I can hear Ross puffing out his chest from here and saying that “”we the Waitahanui team are afraid of the mighty Tongariro Browns””, Blah blah blah!! No it isn’t that, (well not quite anyway) more like this is a winter fishing comp and that to me means Rainbows!! I will put up a forum poll so you guys can either agree or not, check it out! As it is for this years contest last years rules will apply. That is unless Ross wants to change the rule now, (lol)…

Anyway.. Good numbers of trout in all the rivers. Take your time through the water, try to fish to as much water as is available and you should come home with a trout.

Regards Shane
