At the time of writing this all the Taupo rivers are high and dirty, even the good old Waitahanui.
I guided on the Tauranga Taupo yesterday and as you can see by the rain gauge the level came up FAST. We were lucky to get onto the correct side in time as it was a wall of water coming down. The fishing was red hot however and we had a ball.
I tried the Waitahanui this morning and although a few trout were being pulled on the straight, the middle pools were barren, either that or they were hiding as the water level was up and the water quite coloured.
We are meant to get a little break from the rain over the next few days and the water level should drop away, although with the high lake level it might take an extra day to drain off. All the trout yesterday were in good condition.
