A few more anglers out over the weekend just been and a few shaking their heads. In fact I spoke to one un happy chappy who said that all the fishing reports had said plenty of trout in the rivers and so far he hadn’t had a touch!! Hmmm the last time there were any “”good numbers”” of trout in the rivers was after the rain a few weeks back. I told him to keep an eye on the rain gauges for the Tauranga Taupo and when they came up, to try his luck then. This can be a real fickle time of the year for running trout, they really want that rain to come in and bring the water levels up. If you do strike it right then the fishing can be awesome!!
All the river mouths are fishing well at the moment and this is a sure sign that the trout are building up out there waiting for these conditions to arrive.
If I was going to be on the water at the moment I would be using a tapered leader with Fluro on the end section and small naturals, small indicator and moving through the water with care.
