Lake Taupo Trout Fishing And Guiding Report For The 16th Of July 2012

Hey All,

well we got the rain that I had been waiting for! The problem is we REALLY got rain. The Tauranga Taupo is over the 2 meter mark and I have only ever seen this once before, trout will not enter this river under these conditions. I guess the good news is that with the Lake being so low, the rivers should empty out quickly and as they drop the trout hanging off the Rips should move in. The rain is due to ease tonight and some fine weather to come in for the rest of the week, fingers crossed.

The Waitahanui got a fair pummeling from anglers this afternoon. It was holding a few fish in there but I am sure they will be super spooky by now. It did have a bit of colour in there, apparently by 3.00pm. I fished the Hinemaiaia on Friday and it had a few spent trout throughout its length but certainly nothing fresh. The water level was fairly low too.

Thursday and Friday should be good days if the rain stops now!

Regards Shane
