A great week to be on the rivers, they all fired. It has gotten a little harder as the week moved on with settled weather and heaps of angling pressure. I was sent a picture from a regular reader, of a 9.5 pond Jack Rainbow taken from one of the local rivers, and no Ross it wasn’t from the Tongariro. This is one of the best looking trout I have seen in YEARS. Thanks for that Chris, I know where I am parking my Butt next week!
We are having some drizzle at the moment and although it won’t do much for the river levels it does make for good running weather. I have seen some big runs of trout go through rivers like the Waitahanui when this type of weather is about. The rips tend to fire as well.
Speaking of the rips. The lake level is soooooo low that getting out to the TT and Waimarino drop off is safe and easy at the moment and I believe that both of these are doing well. If you haven’t done this then you should, it is a heap of fun when the trout come in!!
I fished the Tonagriro this morning and struggled a little bit. I got there late and only tried one section but the anglers I watched and spoke to had the same opinion, the trout have moved through! If you are not onto them MOVE!!
The Hinemaiaia is receiving heaps of pressure now as the upper uppers are about to close off. If you are in there using glo bugs and not hitting trout swap to naturals as these trout will have seen a toone of Glowies and heave and leaves from the river mouth, they do get wise.
Good luck and tight lines for the weekend.
