Hey All

we have a busy weekend coming up with a few local clubs holding their annual comps on the Taupo Rivers. The rain we had last night should have pushed a few fresh trout into all the rivers so hopefully some decent fishing will be had. I have watched the level on the Tauranga Taupo drop fast all this morning as the low lake level sucks the water out. This should have a few trout in it tomorrow or even late this afternoon.

I guided on the TT yesterday and was horrified at the result. I have taken Barbara out numerous times and we have always hooked up but yesterday we got skunked well and truly. This is probably only the third time in 5 years of guiding that I have had this happen to me on the TT. Apparently last weekend a good group of trout went through and most anglers had a ball. This seems to be the sequence of events this season. The trout move in with the rain but travel through the river very quickly and with the low water conditions that we have had, they go off the bite even quicker.

I am guiding this afternoon and again through the weekend and into next week so hopefully there will be plenty of trout in the systems for us to play with. I will update this page to let you know what is happening.

I have been asked to take someone to the very top of the Waitahanui and then wet line back down, I am really looking forward to this guide as I don’t get up there as much as I used to. It is tight and nasty but some big trout are in there and you very really see another person. It fishes best about now once a few good runs of trout have gone in.
