Frosty and cold

Frosty and cold

Hey All

It was a bit warmer than the perdicted -4 this morning being -2 at 8.00am when we started walking the lower section of the Waitahanui River. Dick from over Napier way had requested a half day on the Waitahanui going through as many of the pools as possible to get a feel for them and to make sure he was fishing them correctly. being a fit farmer we covered a heap of water and I got a good feel for what was in there. Bugger all would spring to mind and what was in there didn’t want a Barr of us!!!! Dick was bloody good angler too so I felt Stink!!! I can see the smile on Rossie boys face now. There are trout in there, they are in very small groups but as I say they really didn’t want to play ball at all. We managed to get up to Reid’s in 5 hours on the water.

All this cold morning frosty stuff is pushing a few into the Hinemaiaia by the sounds of it so if you are brave enough to venture on there you may have some luck. The Hinemaiaia always gets a few going through with a heavy frost, and we have certainly had those.

I shot down to turagi yesterday to pick some flies up from Creal and to pick Stevens brain on where he thought the trout were in here. The Bridge pool has been hammered by the locals but that is because they are pulling them out. The large group of Trout that came in with the last bout of rain we had can be found in between the two swing bridges. heaps of water to tackle there guys. Some good trout have come out too. If I was guiding that is where I would be!!!!

Once again we need some rough weather, all the river are low and clear. Apparently we will get a bit of the wet stuff by Saturday so hopefully it may push something in for the start of next week.

Regards Shane
