Hey All

And the good news just keeps coming in!!

If you can get up, down or over,to Taupo for some fishing then this weekend would be a good one to do it. There are heaps of trout in all the rivers. Over the past three days I have fished them all, even the Waiotaka and I am impressed with what I am catching. 95% of the trout my clients are landing are keepers and we are having some epic battles as well.

I guided Ralph and his son Kevin yesterday for about the tenth time in three years. This time we headed over to the Tauranga Taupo, getting there bang on 7.00am. Guess who was there, yip Dave Cade, (local Didymo dude). This guy gets paid limited time by DOC and the rest he does out of the love for his fishery. We haven’t always seen eye to eye but man do I respect his love for the Taupo rivers, he is a great front man for DOC. Anyway deviating a little there……

Ralph the ""slayer""

The photo is of Ralph the slayer of trout hooked up in a pool that held a few!!The horrible thing here is that I had just fished it and proclaimed “”there were no fish left in the hole”” , Ralph who was not convinced of this statement stepped up and on his first drift hooked and landed a nice Jack of 4 pounds. I declared the guide over!!! This is what happens when you teach someone all your tricks. You can’t quite see the smile on his face but believe me it was fairly impressive.

I don’t need to do a river by river report as they all have trout in them. Make sure you are getting down to them, don’t be afraid to use big Glo Bugs and I am using 8 pound Maxima all the way down for my leader. The fact that all the rivers have some colour means you can get away with this great nylon.
