Paul and I shot down to the Tongariro yesterday morning. This river has been a little quiet and so I am keeping an eye on it. We knew the TT is low and clear, so won’t be getting numbers of trout moving through. We know the Hine has had a fantastic season, but both of us had fished the hell out of that one. We thought about dropping into the Nui for a flick and probably should have as there have been some great trout come out of this river over the past 6 weeks. However we both wanted to stretch our arm and we needed big water for that!
Cold, Bloody hell!!! It was great to feel the warmth of the sun on our backs and the mist off the water looked cool too.
We did a fairly good chunk of river with Paul picking up trout on a regular basis, (bastard). Its his birthday today and so I putting him into all the good spots first!! Both the Glo Bug and natural did the job yesterday morning although by 11.00am the Natural was winning! There were trout in the section we fished. but it was hard going, there was a fair bit of angling pressure too. We did a section of river that I have not fished for a long time and was pleased to see that there had been very little foot traffic. We saw and hooked up on a few good trout as well. It goes to show, if you look around there is always water available without angling pressure.
I have finished with my job up in Auckland and so the reports will come in a little more regular this month
