Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 01st of December 2008

Hey all,

Good grief its December 1st!

dscf0016.JPGI forgot all about this until I was rung by a client and asked where the best spots on the upper Hine were! All over was the reply but its what you throw at them that counts!.

dscf0143.JPGAfter doing my chores around the place and then begging to go for a fish I was aloud out for a few hours this afternoon. I drove into the water supply section and dropped into the water there. Speaking to a few fisherman the Hine got a bit of a pounding this morning. The fish were not great either according to all who I spoke to.

dscf0004.JPGI was using the Red Smoots Bloody Marie in Size 14 as my point fly and it didn’t take me very long to hook up. I landed this fresh little Hen from a fast ripple and had a bit of fun with a few more there too. The Hinemaiaia was running a little higher than normal and everything looked great. I love these upper pools.

dscf0005.JPGIn the end I must have landed ten trout for the two hours on there and dropped a few more on the take. There are some new snags in there but it all looked very much the same in the beat I fished. Nice to fish it again.

The past few days have been very hot in Taupo. The Cicadas were out in force yesterday and it won’t be long before they are used on the water by me. I have heard some good reports from the Mohaka and the Waipunga. You should have a look at these two rivers as access is easy from SH5.

See you on the water.

Regards Shane
