Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 04th Of January 2008

Hey all, happy new year! (a little late I know)

dscf2056_final.JPGThe Waitahanui has one or two Brown Trout going through at the moment, I walked the lower section and the upper section this morning counting ten Browns in total. There are few Rainbows in there as well and it is nice to note they all look VERY fresh and of good size. It would not be easy fishing but you will certainly have the river to yourself and if you are prepared to take your time and maybe go through your fly box you should pick something up. Poi’s pool is holding about 6 nice fish at the moment!

I guided on the Tongariro yesterday and although there are HEAPS of trout in there we found the going fairly tough. The two fish we picked up were both taken on the glo bug as well. We had been fishing to a small group[ of trout for half an hour and gone through all my flies, in desperation I stuck on a glowie and boom first cat we were into one, that was dropped but the second cast was a secure hook up. I tried not to use colour John, (from Auckland) honestly!!

dscf2356_final.JPGOut on the lake things are heating up. We have two boats going out each day when possible from Anglers staying here and they are both bringing back good fish. Three good Brown have been boated and a number of excellent conditioned Rainbows as well. The Gold Bodied Ginger Mick doing the trick for both species.

Good reports in from the back country rivers as well, I know I keep going on about it but please release all these fish.

Regards Shane
