With the rain that fell last night there should be a little pulse of Trout go through most of the rivers. The Tauranga Taupo that had almost been reduced to a trickle has come up to 0.330, not great but it will wake the fish up.
I fished the Tongariro yesterday with a friend. We shot down Grace road to have a look at the section that has been cleared on both banks. great looking water and it will hold crap loads of trout over winter but casting is a massive problem with your line getting caught on the up rooted roots. Take a stripping basket down there and this should help. great looking water as I said! I fished the Bain and plank Pool as well, pulling out one good Hen and missing a few strikes as well. A little Pheasant Tail doing the damage.
The rips all look good at the moment but have gone somewhat quiet. The rain should help out here again.
More rain and some wind would really help things move along now.
Take care out there
