Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 11th Of March 2008

Hey all,

Beautiful setting on the HinemaiaiaIt’s getting colder down here and Winter is making itself felt. We have a strong South Westerly blowing in at the moment and because of these conditions Trout are trickling into the Waitahanui and The Hinemaiaia.

dscf2730.JPGToday I did a section of the Hinemaiaia that I have not fished for a while. It took a wee while to get onto the fish but once I did it was all action. There are a heap of Resident Trout in there at the moment but don’t be surprised by the odd very fresh run Rainbow as well. This little chunker went 3.5 pounds and took well over ten minutes to get in the net, it is as fresh as you get. I’ll say it again this river is spectacular and is just a pleasure to walk it and be surrounded by Nature and bush, add the trickle of water in the back ground and it is pure meditation to be out there.

Snags what snags!!!Here is a positive statement. I have noticed over the past three weeks that all the fresh run Trout entering the rivers are in excellent condition. This time last year I was already complaining about the terrible state of the fish. Although it is still early days for this season it is a positive start.
