Hey All,

dscf3947.JPGOMG did we get some rain yesterday and again this morning. On my way to the Tonagriro Lodge yesterday afternoon there was about 3 inches of sleet on the side of the road by the Waiotaka. All the rivers are up at the moment, although I don’t know what the Hinemaiaia is like. I will find out this afternoon and post later tonight. The Tauranaga Taupo and the Tongariro are certainly a NO FISH for today. That leaves the good old Waitahanui!! No wonder the fish are moving through fast here, the pressure this year due to the other rivers being blown out has been intense at times.

dscf3946.JPGI fished the Waitahanui this morning, there are a few fish in there and some nice ones as well. I picked up a heap around the 2.5 pound mark, unfortunately these little fish have realy given us a hard time this season! I picked up this ugly looking bugger as well. I haven’t come across anything like this for a while. I dropped, (yes Brendon) two good fish around the four pound mark, while trying to net them in fast water.

The Kitchen hand/ trainee chef, Shane at the Tongariro Lodge is a keen fisho and has a few skills as well. He told me yesterday that some of the trout in the Tongariro are ‘Big”and that the quality has improved over the past few weeks. Hopefully things will look up over the next month or so. Last year saw some good fish come in at this time of year to all the rivers and so if this year is better, (which it is) then we may all be happy anglers shortly, lets hope so huh!!

Regards Shane
