Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 15th Of August 2008

Hey All,

I have had a few phone calls this morning from regular fisherman asking what the conditions are like and is it worth fishing Taupo this weekend due to the forecast of rain. This is a hard one as I understand with the petrol prices getting here to find all the rivers blown out is annoying. My response has been this.  As at 12.30 PM today the Waitahanui is fishable and has good numbers of trout in there. The Hinemaiaia is also fishable with near perfect water according to an honest report in this morning, angling pressure was high though. The Tauranga Taupo is high and unfishable peaking at 1.01, this won’t fish again until late Sunday or Monday, the run off into the lake is slow. The Tongariro is fishable with the flow sitting at around 40, perfect wet lining conditions. If you want to nymph this try for that slower water the fish will be holding up there too.

So heaps of water to fish and most of the rain has gone through, yes we are due showers, snow hail and frogs but the levels shouldn’t be effected too much. When it all comes down to it guys you need to have your line in the water to catch the buggers.

Hope you get some fishing in this weekend.

Regards Shane
