Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 18 October 2007

Hey All

Man did we get some rain last night! I personally have never heard it come down that hard in my life. If you check the Tauranga Taupo river level on the links page you will see it rose alarmingly to just under 1.400, this is just under the flood mark. Although it has come down a little now it will be unfishable for a wee while yet. The Tongariro funny enough didn’t get the same amount of rain, it did come up but will be very fishable today. Even the good old Waitahanui was coloured this morning and the water volume has increased with all the pools and runs looking yummy to say the least. I shot in there for a quick fish yesterday afternoon and picked up three fish,(dropping two) one of these was a very nice fat Trout of about 4 pounds and I was fluffing around deciding if I should take it or not when it pulled the hook! The one I landed was also about 4 pounds but was a fat Hen. They were all hooked in a radius of 100 meters of the river.

I have all my summer flies in stock at the moment, these are all killer patterns and I can’t wait to get out and try them. feather merchants have come up with some really exciting patterns that will defiantly take fish in all the different rivers. Stop by and have a look.
