Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 19th Of April 2008

Hey all,

I fished the Waitahanui and the Hinemaiaia yesterday. The Waitahanui had good numbers in the middle and lower reaches. I dropped one of the biggest fish I have ever hooked, in the lower section. This beast just cleaned me out with no effort at all, I had to put sideways pressure on it as it tore off under a bank and that is when the hook pulled, an excellent double figure Hen.

The Hinemaiaia was still a mess, with brown water that was really too high to fish. I landed one from there but it was no fun and the crossing were a little scary.

Today Saturday.

Up early and into the Waitahanui, anglers everywhere. We have had a brisk SW blowing for the past 24 hours and everyone who realizes this brings fish in, where there in droves. I struck out in the lower section and didn’t see a fish landed and so shot up to the upper pools. There was one car under the power lines and so I fished my way up to Snag bend, without a touch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was going to have a flick in the middle section but decided to travel over to the Hine and have a look there. Every man and his dog were below the car park and so I shot up River. In short time I was into fresh fish, these were not huge, (all around 3. pounds) but plenty of them and great fun. The Champagne RED dot glowie doing the damage in this river today.

I have a fair amount of guiding next week and I can’t wait to get out there and get my clients onto these freshies. I will let you know how it all goes.

Regards Shane
