Hey all,

dscf0022.JPGAnother great day in Taupo with little wind and a warm 17 degrees. This apparently is going to change over the next 24 hours with some rain and a cold southerly. Not great for the mountain but excellent for fishing.

dscf0305.JPGThere are good numbers of trout in all sections of the Waitahanui at the moment according to the reports in. I haven’t been for a fish myself over the past 12 hours but the reports are reliable. Black fish, if you want a decent walk is loaded at the moment!

Part of the excitment, the Quad in and out.It is almost the opening season for the back country water that I fish. Although i love the Taupo Winter fishery, there is something special about getting out into the back of beyond and having a go at these wild Trout. The pictures are of the upper Wanganui River. I quad bike in there with John from Taupo Quads who looks after you with tender loving care, you then get to spend the day with me on the river hunting down these excellent fighting fish. At the end of the day we exit the river where John is waiting with the Quads to take us home.

A fantastic run!For all you fishermen out there who love scenery then this river has it all. You will not come across another fisherman while you are there and the pools and runs are to die for.

4.5 pound Jack taken on the NymphAs for the Trout. there are big browns and large angry Rainbows in the range of 3.5 to 8 pounds. One pool that i fished last season had a Brown trout that we hooked three times in succession and each time it smoked us. I can’t wait to get back there and see if it is still there! The water clarity is excellent and so Sight fishing and stalking are available. This will be a trip you talk about for years to come.
