Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 23rd of June 2008

Brrrrrrrrrrrr hey all,

Well I thought the fish would be cuing up to enter the rivers today. I was up early and shot over to the Hinemaiaia where I found it still to be low and clear. I pulled ONE fat little Jack out of a deep hole but that was it. Two anglers in the steps pool had the same story!! I shot back to the Waitahanui and had a quick flick in Totara bridge but didn’t get anything there either!

Shot back home, did a couple of rooms, helped paint one of the bathrooms that is being done up and then shot into the Waitahanui rip at 11.45.

Just as I got there the wind turned Westerly and started to build up the waves. The only other angler left quickly and I was all alone. The waves started to get nasty and just as I was about to leave BAM!!!! I was in. I landed the small Jack that was in fantastic condition but to small and made my way back out. For the next half hour I was subjected to huge waves smashing into my nuts, (why do they always hit there????) Finally a huge wave broke over the top of me and that was it. I decided to go into the Waitahanui and have a play with the wet line. I was skunked there and as my tummy was rumbling something terrible I shot home for food. Who should be there but Mr CPF himsel, Brett. He told me that the Hinemaiaia had a few fish in there and so after the coffee I gave him I threw him out and shot over there. The water was up a little bit but there was an awful amount of angling pressure due to the other rivers being blown out. Once again I was skunked, I really hate that guys believe me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hine sucks, but probably will fish well tomorrow, the water was certainly up and coloured and the waves are crashing in at the river mouth.

The Tauranga TaupoƂ and the Tongariro are both high and are marginally fishable. Any more rain and they won’t be!! The link to the TT water flow is stuck, I have know idea why but will try and get it fixed from my end. In the mean time if you click on it through this web site and then click the back to Waikato link, you can check it out from there, including the Tongariro river level.

I am out and about tomorrow so hope to have some pics and a few fish as well.

Like most of the country we are going to get a cold blast and a bit more rain. Please be safe on the roads and on the water.

Regards Shane
