Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 24th August 2007

Hey All

Well thats the sickness out of the way for the next ten years or so!!!!

Cleared section opposite Fence PoolOk the fishing has slowed down from a week ago when all the rivers were running high and the wind was blowing, but there are still good numbers of fresh fish in all the Taupo rivers. Yesterday I dragged my sorry arse into the Lower Waitahanui to blow away the cob webs and managed to hook up onto five very good fish, two of which really dealt to my slow reaction of a strike that was going on with me. I needed some thug of a guide along side of me screaming “STRIKE” in my ear. Colonel’s Bend is producing some nice fish at the moment. The fence pool that has been great all season seems to have come to a shuddering halt. Is this because the section opposite the pool has been cleared? The sun now beats down into this pool all afternoon!!! At the least it is a bloody Eye sore.

Lower WaitahanuiToday I went around the lake looking for a rip to fish. I am in the Kinlock Trout Fishing tournament and have entered into the Rip fishing section, no river fishing aloud. It kicked off at 12.00 pm. At 11.45 the Westerly blew up and destroyed the Waitahanui, Hinemaiaia and Waimarino rips within the hour, the fishing gods have a funny sense of humour at times. I waded out into the Tauranga Taupo river mouth but got a pounding and it was cold as sin. Yes my bra was a little tight today!!!

With any luck the weather will let up a bit for tomorrow and I can slay them somewhere. Untill then

Regards Shane
