Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 24th of December 2008

December 24, 2008

Hey All Readers,

It has been a wet 24 hours in the Taupo catchment and some of the rivers are running higher than normal. This can still push a few freshies through.

dscf0197.JPGHeaps of Brown Trout in the Tonagriro at the moment, although there have been regular Browns taken all year!! Now is the time have a go at them. As they are a lot more aggressive and come alive at night this is the prime time to have a real go at them. Some of the deeper pools on the Tongariro must be full of these nocturnal predators and if you scope it out during the day, then return at night, you just never know your luck. A fast sinker and a big black ugly thing retrieved very slowly, would be a good choice.

Like wise at the river mouths there seem to be some nice fish being taken. Smelt flies are what you should have in your box as well as size 6 and 8″s in the Woolly bugger range. The variegated chenille, (green with a bit of black) work brilliantly. If you can find some of these with a bit of Purple flash in the tail, then all the better.
