Lake Taupo Trout Fishing Report For The 25th Of August 2008

Hey All

All the rivers were blown out today with heavy rain that fell last night. A whole bunch of the TRM crew turned up on Blake road to try and plunder our precious water but they all sucked and so went home fishless. Ross apparently is at a loss to were he should put the trophy, I could suggest a place!!!!!

Anyway enough on that subject.

I went and had a look at the Hinemaiaia rip this morning. Wow I thought the lake was high over here at the Waitahanui. It is on the door steps over there and if we get a good North Easterly it will do some SERIOUS damage to the lake front, there is no beach at all. I had a quick flick but it didn’t feel right and the flow was almost non existent.

From there I shot back over to the Waitahanui. There were about 7 cars up Blake Road and so i had a flick in the Waitahanui rip instead. I dropped one fish on my second cast and the lady angler next to me landed one soon after. Marylin is a regular there and catches fish on a regular basis. The rip looks quite good at the moment and it was nice casting out the Kilwell SAS with a full sinking line on it. This is the first time I have taken this beast into a rip and I was well impressed.

We are due more rain tonight and so the Waitahanui will probably be the only river fishable again.

Take care out there

Regards Shane
