I have walked the Waitahanui twice over the past two days. There is no angling pressure on there what so ever. The bottom reaches are reasonably quiet trout wise but there are good numbers of trout in the middle and upper pools. Going for a good long walk up to Black Fish, flick and switch and the limit pool can be well worth the effort.
Jim from Tauranga stopped into the shop late Sunday afternoon and reported twenty good fish holding at Black Fish. He hooked into three before the pack spooked, landing two and having the third go down into the fast water and busting him off. He also dropped a “Beauty” from some water just down from the Limit. He reported the beer always tastes better after a walk back down from that pool.
I was up early this morning and pulled a beauty from the rock pool. This is only the second trout I have taken from here and so was a good feeling. The fact it would have gone 5 pounds was another reason for joy! Just look at that flesh.
Catch ya on the water.
