It was tougher on the Waitahanui this morning than I expected, especially since Friday afternoon and night were so stormy. In fact I would have bet parts of my anatomy that the Waitahanui would have been full of fish in the lower reaches. I fished with Wendy from Auckland and managed to pick up one Hen and missed a few other strikes but that was it. All other fishermen on the water were scratching their heads as well. A report in though mentioned that the Hinemaiaia and Waitahanui rips fished well on the change of light this morning with some excellent fish taken. Heave and leaves are starting to come into their own now. Check this out, three fish were taken on a smelt fly in the Waitahanui rip this morning. We are certainly behind a little with the seasons.
Hope you are all having a safe weekend.
