I fished the Tauranga Taupo this morning, it was still a little high with perfect colour. Some of the crossings were a little on the tricky side but there were fish in there! I didn’t know what to expect either as the water has been so high all week and I wondered if the Trout had moved through. That wasn’t a problem as the fish were all the way through. Almost all of my water that I fish is the same as well, no snags, (thank God). Champagne Red Dot Glo Bugs did it for us all morning.
The Waitahanui had a fresh run go through over night as well, with a tight packed group staying together. One angler staying with us got onto them and pulled twelve in the space of two hundred meters in the middle section.
When we passed over the Hinemaiaia at 1.20 pm there were no cars in the park below the bridge.
We are due a little more rain over the next few days and so the levels might rise again. All the rips will fish well if this happens.
Take care out there.
