Hey all,

Fairly tough on the Waitahanui this afternoon when I shot in for a two hour guide. All anglers walking up and down the river,(and there were plenty) had their heads down. We have had a decent blow for the past twenty four hours and everybody is expecting a run of fish through the system. I believe we now need a good dose of rain in the area to bring it on. As I have mentioned the fish coming in although in fantastic condition are moving through quickly.

This time last year we had already had a BIG cold spell and the Waitahanui river had coloured up 5 times in 7 weeks due to heavy rain, this season is more like the one before that, with little rain at the start but a strong finish in November. Whatever the out come you have to be on the water to catch the buggers!!

We have our Waitahanui Lodge fishing contest this weekend. Anyone considering entering, (and it is free) should get in touch ASAP for a entry form. A $15.00 fee is being charged for a beer and wine Barbecue evening on Saturday with some spot prizes given out. It should be a good event as there are some excellent fishermen in there. It only takes one decent drift to win though! That counts Paul out,(hehe).

Take care

Regards Shane
