Hey Catch, forgot to mention,When I was down 3 weeks ago , I was test driving a bright orange size 10 floating line(the only colour I could get in a 10)I was sceptical but I can now say I only spooked fish when I landed the line right over top of them in shallow water , but so did my mate with his grey number 8.
There were so many fish you couldn't avoid laying the line over them , but not once did they spook to the line drifting over them.
Just thought you might be interested ,
Any comment?

Yeah man i was real skeptical of those fluro colours until last yeah when i guided someone who had one. The rivers were all low and clear but with plenty of fish in them. We caught plenty and it didn't seen to spook at all, except as you say, when they are lined!. I still like my camo colours, (piece of mind) but my opinion is it probably doesn't matter as much as we think!

depends where you are, in taupo dosent generally matter, you could chuck a rock at some of the fish and theyd stay put. but on the other hand there are some bloody spooky big browns that i didnt even get the chance to chuck a fly at today. close into the bank, they saw me and they were off man

on monday there were a few fish in the river, picked a monster up on a small champagne orange dot glo bug with a little something extra, but got smoked, wouldve been the biggest trout ive ever hooked. on thursday i was nailing them on a mozzie pattern on dries but were all small fish. picked up zilch on the nymph that day

i was in the lower reaches. skip bridge, but fish the rest, quickly. sight fish if the rivers clear enough, as if your looking, you can see lots of fish in some shallow stuff. i went up to cliff and picked up 5, landed 3. one of which was a monster that smoked me and busted me off. mind you shane had fished that water like 20 minutes previous and had probably caught every fish from cliff downwards!  Tongue

Gidday all, last year fished with a orange line and this year with a white line and pulled in lots of fish.Went out this morning to the hine and hooked 7 landed 5 and kept 2 round the 3.5-4 lb mark. The line colour doesn't seem to matter (in the taupo rivers). But in clear small steams round the place it shall does, not to say that l haven't caught fish from them with brighty coloured lines. All in all,if the fish are there and you have the right flies on and weight ,you have a good go at catching them.

Tight Lines.

Yeah ive got a bright green rio line and i still seem to catch fish. I mean as long as you have good presentation and you dont line the fish it shouldnt really matter and of course you have the right flies on that are the right size.

lower to middle reaches. there were 5 big trout sitting the the pool in the lower reaches that has a half submerged tree in front and of your drift and the same thing behind it. the fish took royal wolfs and flashbacks in 16. the monster rainbow that smoked me took a small glo bug. if you dont SEE any fish in a pool, put in a couple of drifts and move on, as when i was there it was a bit hit and miss, some pools held all the fish and some had none
