I have just had a meeting with the web design team, Traff1c and they would like me to ask you guys what you think of this idea before we put it into practice. What i was thinking is that we could set up a whole area on the web site that you could Buy and sell Fishing gear. Anything to do with fishing from Boats to flies. Of course there would be a fee for doing this, just like the other trade me web sites out there but unlike those it would ONLY be for fishing gear. So please post your comments here for this idea, good or bad!! I promise I won't bite.
Many thanks Shane

This was done on a dirtbike forum I used to be part of. They have a section where sellers can post stuff they want to sell. The postings are only veiw able by admin till they get approved. The seller can be contacted through the forum or post contact details. I bought and sold two offroad motor bikes through the forum. This is the site: http://www.e-dirt.co.za/forum/default.asp?C=5I don't think it generates much cash. It was free for forum members to post things to sell and then shops would pay to sell there stuff.

sorry i couldnt leave a longer post shane i was sorting out the funds for the ever anticipated taupo trip. but yeah in general itd be mint to have a place to buy and sell fishing gear only from some specialists. excellent way to diversify your market as well man, good thinking. stella tells me its getting pretty hard up there as far as funds are concerned so good luck eh. have the slightly dropping petrol prices helped at all?

Yeah mate pretty good idea
Can see how it would be a bit of a mission to run and that but would be pretty sweet to get some gear online and to know it has been looked after and that
cheers

Good idea there catch, only one thing would it be a straight sale type of advert - kinda gets annoying with trade me when you bid on a item and the price is influxed by someone with interest in the sale i.e hydrolicking (sp). But i think it would be a great idea i know there used to be a MTB site that did the same sort of thing - great to find hard to get gear or one offs - Cheers for the great reports and wicked site updates !

Sounds good Catch!.. So long as you can make the system/contracts airtight so that you, as the website provider, arent liable for any deals that go sour.. cheers

Hi Catch, I agree this is a good idea. Trademe tends to get pretty convoluted with all sorts of rubbish gear when you're looking for specialised equipment such as fishing tackle. There is a good NZ windsurfing website which has done this ( http://www.deepfried.tv/trade/default.cfm), whilst I haven't bought anything from this site as yet I would probably look here before looking at Trademe as generally the people selling are enthusiasts themselves and therefore know their equipment well. Not sure if they charge or not but I'm sure the feature would attract a lot of repeat traffic to the site. Good luck.

Hey Catch , Have a look at the www.fitzgeraldwine.co.nz auction site. They charge a buyers premium of 10% and it seems to work.Keeps it simple for all.You could charge buyer or seller fee(or both!!) Seller sends to buyer, buyer pays you,you take ya cut. sounds ok with me.

Great idea Catch, seems to work well on other sites. Would be good to have the facility to be able to post a pic of the sale items though. On that topic, would be an improvement to be able to post pics with any post? BTW, don't you answer e-mails?

Hey Fluff Chucker
Haven't heard from you in ages, certainly haven't had an email from you otherwise I would have replied. We had problems with our security provider some time ago and a whole heap of emails were spammed, we may have missed you. Sorry dude, hope it wasn't important?
