There is Kereru lodge too.. Right up on the upper river near the cliff pool. Looks like a pretty sweet location for getting to the upper pools first, but probably costs a bit more than good 'ol Waitahanui Lodge!

Hi GF, I will drop the rod into the Lodge today as I am down there. The settled weather has not be conducive to running trout sorry dude, but then all the rips are fishing well. Good luck and I'll catch ya later.

i left the rod at the lodge shane, thanks for letting me borrow it! fishing was hard overall, lots of small rainbows taking small mozzie patterns. on all the days there seemed to be a few big boys in the upper reaches. i got a 5 pound rainbow on sunday from cliff pool that almost gave me a smashing. apart from that all the larger fish and browns were spooky as hell. id say most of the rivers got a bashing like the nui was. at one point the rip was so packed i wondered how fish would get through. rip was fishing badly, with the current running almost paralell to the shore

regards geoff
