Looking forward to October

Hey All

dscf3847.JPGWell there goes another month and apparently it was going to be a good one for all the rivers, was it?

dscf3943.JPGTrout certainly moved through the Waitahanui, (fast) and the condition was ok but they are very small. Maybe one in ten was a good 4.5 plus fish, which meant way to many of those spawners were small!!

The Hinemaiaia sucks!!

dscf3950.JPGThe Tauranaga Taupo had some good trout go through both in condition and in numbers. This river should fish right through until December. It did this last year and the one before, infact one of the best runs I came across was in January of this year, with some very good fish amongst them.

dscf3848.JPGThe Tongariro has had good numbers of Trout move in and they are stacked up in many pools. Sometimes they go mad and take anything and at other times are very choosy. Have a good selection of naturals in your box for these occasions. Green and white Cadis, Red bodied Copper Johns and apparently Wee Wets are a good choice at times. It won’t be long before the dry flies can be brought out as well.

dscf3864.JPGThe rest of New Zealand fishing season has opened up as well now and I look forward to getting out and walking my beats to see what has changed.

dscf4044.JPGI like October on the Taupo rivers as there is generally a few more trout around and not so many anglers.

Tight lines all.
